Setup

This step is only needed for the Wise BC Financial Insights app. It tells the report which accounts and financial report to use — a few minutes in Business Central.

  • In Business Central, search the Tell Me box for Wise Insights Connector and open it.

  • You'll see two things to fill in: G/L Accounts and Account Schedule.

G/L Accounts

Pick a G/L account for each field. Each one must be an End-Total account type. If the account you need doesn't exist yet, create it in your chart of accounts first.

Account Schedule (your financial report)

An Account Schedule is the quickest way to get your own financial report into the Power BI app. Power BI reads it a little differently from Business Central, so set it up like this:

  • List the parent (total) line first, then its child lines underneath it.

  • Mark child lines by indenting them; the group ends when the next parent line begins (or the schedule ends).

  • Children must point to account numbers (summary type = Accounts) — not to other lines.

  • A parent has no formula — it's simply the sum of its children.

  • Several parents can share a level; their order sets the order in the report.

  • Use as many levels as Business Central allows.

Example. Operating profit is the parent (not indented). Its children are Total income and Total expenses (indented one level). To break income down further, indent those lines twice and drop the separate Total income line.

Microsoft's guide to account schedules is worth a read first. Stuck? Wise's advisors can walk you through it.

Budgets (optional)

Any budget you've made in Business Central shows up as a slicer in Wise BC Financial Insights, so you can compare actuals against it. No budget yet? Search G/L Budgets in the Tell Me box and create one.
